Data is held in all sorts of databases, spreadsheets and systems within local authority computers. The aim of the programme is to find similar data examine it, model it, transform it, create linked data and then release it through the GMDSP Quad Store.
The challenge lies in the fact that not all similar data is described in the same way. A road sign in one database might be street furniture in another and totally different in another. The task of making sense of this falls to the Code Fellows. At the moment they exist in a world of ontologies, concept models, schemas and abstract conversations that tend to revolve around the definition of things.
